The Cypress Creek High School girls’ water polo team earned three District 16-6A superlatives to wrap up the water polo season. Junior Selah Thomas was named Most Valuable Player, freshman Eva Hurey was named Newcomer of the Year and head coach Jeff Chandler was named girls’ Coach of the Year.

Oct. 23, 2024—District 16-6A water polo coaches recently released the 2024 All-District 16-6A Water Polo Team, following the conclusion of each team’s season in the UIL playoffs.

The Cypress Creek High School girls’ and boys’ water polo teams each earned three district superlatives to wrap up the season.

On the girls’ side, Cypress Creek junior Selah Thomas was named the league’s Most Valuable Player while fellow teammate freshman Eva Hurey was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year.

Cy-Fair High School junior Heather Bussey was named Goalkeeper of the Year.

Cypress Creek Head Coach Jeff Chandler was named girls’ Coach of the Year.

“We are extremely proud of these student-athletes and coaches,” said Jonathan Mayer, CFISD director of aquatics. “We have an exceptional group of knowledgeable coaches who pour into their athletes daily, teaching them the necessary skills in the water to be successful water polo players. The athletes named to this list have proven to be the best of the best in our district this season. Congratulations to all our water polo teams on a tremendously successful year!”

On the boys’ side, Cypress Creek senior Samson Hurey was named the league’s Most Valuable Player while fellow teammate junior Massey Hyde was named Goalkeeper of the Year.

Jersey Village High School freshman Matthew Hunt was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year.

Cypress Creek Head Coach Jeff Chandler was named boys’ Coach of the Year.
